Research on Different Paper Artist

I am going look at different artist’s work for inspiration. I will focus on their unique quality and will consider them when creating my final design.

Richard Sweeney

What I admin about Richard Sweeney work is the way that he forms strong repetitive designs. When making my final outcome it would be wise to focus on Richard Sweeney’s work. Photography is very important as it captures interesting shadows formed from the repetitive shapes.

Peter Callesen

This is Peter Callesen work. What I like about his work is the way that he uses the cut off and involves them back into the overall design. I feel that there is not too much repetition in his work but it is very useful to see how he creates them skeletons

Ingrid Siliakus

What I admire about Ingrid Siliakus work is the way her designs are based on a pop-up mechanism. For example most of her designs will be used on a paper folded in half so that the base fold becomes a part of the design. This may become a good idea for my final piece as I will be creating a rib cage like image focusing on simplicity.

Chris Natrop

Below are images from Chris Natrop designs. What I like about these designs is there attention to detail. Also another good aspect that I can annotate about Chris’s work is the lighting effect. As there are many clear parts in his design the lighting and shadows become a piece of art itself.

Animal Bone Structure

I have decided to look at animals bone structures to note the differences and also I may be inspired on a certain join or structure and therefore focus on a animal rather than a human structure.

Bone Structure of a Bat

Bone Structure of a Dog

Bone Structure of a Elephant

Bone Structure of a Snake

Bone Structure Primary research

Below are images that I have taken from a human body. I will focus on ways to simplify the structure and still keep within the theme of repetition. One think that I want to keep away from is making a replica of a joint or rib cage as I feel that it will not be effective and takes the focus off the folds, cutting and general paper manipulation.

Paper Repetition

Below are some paper sculptures that have been created to stress paper manipulation. With this model how I created it was folding the paper in half and cutting though so it cuts both sides.

For the design I folded the paper until it was a triangle and then cut loads of random arrows though.

Bone Structure Primary Research

For my primary research I have take images of my bone structure. With these images I will focus on curves and ways that I can manipulate the paper for form these shapes and patterns.

Bone Structure Secondary Research

Below are some images found on the internet for different bone structure of the human body

From Here to There...

Now that I’ve done a bit of experimenting with paper I have decided to look in to bone structure and how to manipulate it with the use of paper.
